Walking Trails

We have some lovely walking trails through the Woods and along the River (Boyne Ramparts Walk). Please respect other walkers and keep your dog on the lead while walking through the woods and along the river bank as these are Special Areas of Conservation with many protected species. See https://www.npws.ie/protected-sites/sac/002299 for more details on the River Boyne and River Blackwater SAC.

The River Walk can be accessed via the Lower Glamping car park or meadow, see the map attached. The walk goes westwards towards Beau Parc House (turn left at the river) and eastwards to Slane Bridge the crossing point to walk to Slane Village. You can loop back around via the Farm Track from our main gate and walk along the fields pasture (along Upper or Lower Barley) back up to the farm

House Rules

  • Noise: Please keep noise to a minimum after 11pm. No amplified music is permitted outdoors without prior permission.
  • Leave No Trace: We are a certified GSTC ecotourism destination. Please respect the environment, dispose of waste responsibly, and leave your accommodation as you found it.
  • Parking: Please do not drive into any of the Glamping areas outside your designated car park.
  • Fire safety: Never leave fires or candles unattended. Follow all fire safety signage on site.
  • Pets: Please check your booking confirmation regarding pet policy for your accommodation.

What to Bring

Being prepared is key to getting the most from your Rock Farm Slane experience:

  • Torch / head torch — a rechargeable lantern will be provided per unit, but a small torch from home is useful for navigating the farm at night.
  • Swimming costume, towel & flip flops — for the natural swimming pool. Towels are also available for hire at reception (€2/towel).
  • Wellies or walking boots — essential, as the site can be muddy in wet weather.
  • Waterproof jacket & trousers — Ireland’s weather is best dressed for.
  • Warm layers (October to March) — fleece, warm socks, gloves, and a woolly hat are all recommended.
  • Sun lotion & antihistamines — you will be outdoors. We are unable to administer medication on site.

Check-Out

Please vacate your accommodation by 11:00am on your day of departure.

After checking out, you are welcome to load your car and enjoy a walk or take part in any of the farm activities. However the property itself simply needs to be cleared by 11am to allow for cleaning.

Unfortunately, we are not able to accommodate late check-outs due to our cleaning schedule.

🌿 Ecotourism & Guest Feedback

A Greener Stay at Rock Farm Slane

Welcome to our little corner of the Boyne Valley!

Rock Farm Slane is a working organic farm on the Slane Castle Estate, surrounded by woodland, farmland and the beautiful River Boyne. Sustainability is at the heart of what we do, from our straw-bale buildings and renewable energy initiatives to our organic farming, wildlife conservation and natural wastewater treatment system.

We’re proud to be certified to the Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC) standards, and we’re always looking for ways to improve.

We’d love you to join us in looking after this special place during your stay.

🌱 Read our 2026 Ecotourism Policy to discover more about our work protecting nature, conserving energy and water, reducing waste and supporting the local community.

♻️ Help Us Reduce Waste

We’re working hard to reduce the amount of waste generated at Rock Farm. In 2025, we recycled or composted 67% of our waste, and we’re aiming to increase this to 70% while reducing waste overall.

You can make a difference by separating your waste correctly and helping us compost food scraps here on the farm.

Our Which Bin? Guide

  • Onsite composting: Place suitable fruit and vegetable scraps, excluding citrus, tea leaves, coffee grounds and eggshells into the designated compost collection containers. Our team will manage the HOTBIN composters.

  • Brown bins – Food waste: Meat, fish, bones, citrus, cooked leftovers and suitable food-soiled paper.

  • Blue bins – Recycling: Clean, dry paper, cardboard, tins, cartons and recyclable plastic packaging. All recycling must be clean, dry and loose.

  • Glass bins: Please take empty glass bottles and jars home for recycling where practical, or use our dedicated onsite glass collection bins.

  • Black bins – General waste: Non-recyclable items, nappies, wipes and contaminated packaging that cannot be cleaned.

Please avoid leaving excess food, single-use decorations, disposable tableware or unwanted party supplies behind. For group celebrations, coordinating shopping and bringing reusable decorations can make a big difference.

🥤 Re-turn Your Bottles & Cans

In Ireland, eligible drinks cans and plastic bottles carry a refundable deposit:

  • 15c for containers from 150ml to 500ml.

  • 25c for containers over 500ml and up to 3 litres.

Look for the Re-turn logo. You can reclaim your deposit at participating retailers or leave your eligible containers at Reception, clean, empty and uncrushed, with barcodes intact, to support our Re-turn for Children campaign.

💚 Little Things That Make a Big Difference

We’d really appreciate your help with a few simple things:

  • Turn off unnecessary lights and heating when leaving your accommodation even if it’s just for a few hours.

  • Reuse towels and be mindful of water consumption.

  • Replace hot tub covers after use.

  • Use the eco-friendly cleaning products provided and never flush wipes or sanitary products.

  • Respect wildlife, don’t feed farm animals, stay on designated paths and close gates behind you.

  • Keep outdoor noise to a minimum after 11pm to protect our peaceful surroundings.

  • Explore Slane Village, support local businesses and enjoy walking around the farm and surrounding countryside.
