Working towards building Sustainable Tourism in Ireland

At Rock Farm Slane, we’ve always believed that great holidays shouldn’t cost the earth. Nestled on the banks of the River Boyne in County Meath, our eco glamping site and organic farm blend together adventure, comfort, and sustainability.

We are proud to announce that Rock Farm Slane is now officially GSTC-accredited, joining a select group of tourism businesses around the world recognised for meeting the highest global standards in sustainable tourism.

The sustainability journey of Rock Farm Slane was co-funded by the European Union, under the I-STARS SMP-COSME-2021-TOURSME Project No. 101085914

What GSTC Accreditation Means

The Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC) sets the international benchmark for responsible and eco-friendly travel. Achieving GSTC certification means that Rock Farm Slane has met strict criteria in:

  • Environmental protection and energy management
  • Water and waste conservation
  • Community and cultural engagement
  • Ethical business operations

For our guests, this means you can stay with confidence, knowing your visit directly supports genuine eco-tourism in Ireland.

How we are reducing Our Environmental Footprint

Energy Conservation and Renewable Power. At Rock Farm Slane, we are committed to cutting our carbon footprint and leading by example in sustainable energy use:

  • Our solar panel project will generate renewable electricity across the farm and glamping village.
  • Buildings like our eco lodges and straw-bale houses are naturally insulated, designed to harness passive heat and airflow.
  • All lighting is LED and energy-efficient, and we continuously monitor consumption to eliminate waste.

This focus on clean energy helps make us an eco-conscious accommodation providers in Ireland.

Water Conservation and Protection

Water is one of our most precious natural resources, and we use it wisely:

  • Rainwater harvesting systems collect and reuse water for irrigation and farm use.
  • Low-flow taps and showers ensure guest comfort while reducing consumption.
  • Our reed-bed filtration system safely processes wastewater, returning clean water to the environment.

This closed-loop approach keeps Rock Farm’s water systems natural and sustainable.

Waste Reduction and Circular Systems

We follow a zero-waste philosophy wherever possible:

  • Organic waste is composted and, where possible, reused in our permaculture gardens.
  • We have clear recycling facilities for glass, paper, and plastics.
  • We support local and bulk suppliers to reduce packaging and single-use plastics.

By integrating waste reduction into every aspect of operations, Rock Farm Slane is working to become a model for eco farm stays in Ireland.

Supporting Nature and Local Communities

Our commitment to sustainability extends beyond the farm:

  • We partner with local Meath producers and artisans to promote a circular economy.
  • We actively conserve native habitats, creating safe havens for wildlife and pollinators.
  • Guests can take part in eco tours, organic farm experiences, and guided nature walks to learn about our conservation work.

Rock Farm Slane isn’t just a place to stay, it’s an invitation to reconnect with nature and experience authentic eco-tourism in Ireland.
